Group Tour Information

Groups of any size may receive a volunteer tour guide escort and an educational (docent-led) presentation as they enter each exhibit space. Group tours must be arranged at least one week in advance and must be approved by the museums involved. A docent-led presentation in the Artists' Guild Gallery also is available to tour groups.

Hotel Discounts

All associates of Chapman Cultural Center receive a substantial discount at the conveniently located Spartanburg Marriott (299 North Church Street). When making reservations, please identify yourself as an associate of Chapman, and your room rate will be $135 per night. 

Parking Tips

There is a parking lot on each side of Chapman Cultural Center. This is free parking for guests here to see shows, attend classes, visit exhibits, or conduct other business.

Parking also is available free of charge in the St. John Street Garage, which is just to the west of our facility off of Liberty Street, directly behind The George, the George Dean Johnson, Jr., USC Upstate College of Business and Economics.

Parking on Liberty or Converse streets is prohibited because it blocks access for emergency vehicles. Please keep reserved handicap spaces for those who have proper authorization and need.

Accessibility Information

Chapman Cultural Center is fully ADA compliant. All areas of the campus are handicapped accessible. The Chapman Cultural Center theater has state-of-the-art hearing assistance technology. In addition to traditional amplification devices, such as headphones, the theater is equipped with “The Loop” technology. Most hearing aids have T-coil or telecoil technology that is compatible with the hearing assistance system in the theatre. In most cases, patrons are able to flip a switch on their hearing aids to receive high quality sound especially suited to their specific needs. If you need a listening device or instructions on how to use our systems, please ask any usher in the theatre for assistance.

Your wedding reception would be a perfect fit in the Jennifer Evins Lobby, a beautiful blank canvas that you can decorate exactly as you've always envisioned. The business meeting that you're in charge of? Have it in one of our conference rooms. The Spartanburg Science Center is perfect for children's birthday parties, our auditorium is wonderful for public announcements and religious services, and you can't find a better spot for a summer luncheon than Zimmerli Plaza. With so many spaces and services, the possibilities truly are endless at Chapman Cultural Center.

  • Theater–Chapman Cultural Center's theater with a seating capacity of 476, proscenium stage, dressing rooms, restrooms, lobby and common areas, available free parking. See bottom of page for theatre technical documents
  • Lobby/Plaza–Jennifer Evins Lobby with a standing capacity of 542 and the Zimmerli Plaza at the heart of all three buildings.
  • Meeting Rooms–One of two meeting rooms located in Chapman Cultural Center, one in Carlos Moseley Dupré Building at ground level and the other in the Montgomery Building upper level; rental includes restrooms, common areas, and available free parking.

Rate Definitions

Full-Day Rate—Use of the contracted area from 8 a.m.–11:59 p.m. with space restored to its original configuration.
Non-Event Day Rate—Use of the contracted area for load-in, tech, rehearsals, dark days (days where show is set up but no activity is scheduled). This reduced rate is contingent upon the lobby, the area in front of the curtain, and the audience chamber being available to rent to others.
Part-Day Rate—Use of the contracted area for no more than 5 consecutive hours, with space restored to its original configuration. Any use of the contracted area over the 5 hours will default to the full-day rate for that area.
Discount Rate—10% off the applicable day rate for rentals of 3 or more days.

Personnel Charges

Technical Support Staff $30/hr (must be on site from load-in to load-out)
House Manager $25/hr (arrives 2 hours before event start time)
Building Security $20/hr (after 5 p.m.)
Fire Security $30/hr

*All labor for events on a national holiday are charged double-time.

Ticket Office Charges

Commission* 10% of final ticket price (min. of $1.00 per ticket)
Ticket Set-up $50 per performance (includes online sales set-up)
Ticket Print Charge $0.25 per ticket (comp tickets only)
Credit Card Charges 4% assessed on all credit card receipts
Extended Hours $15 per hour per person (usually 2 people); no charge for the first two hours day of show

*The commission is charged whether the tickets are sold in the ticket office or elsewhere.

*The rental rates for Chapman Cultural Center are based on all equipment on an as-is-where-is basis. All changes, movement, or modifications will be at the expense of the lessee.

Special Services

Equipment Rental: Chapman Cultural Center is available to make arrangements for rental of additional production and backline gear, which might be required for the user's performance and are not listed herein. A service fee of 20% will be assessed for this service.
