Spartanburg Art Museum (SAM) presents

an exhibition of contemporary art exploring themes of migration, displacement, war, and family.

August 15 - November 10 2019 | Tues-Sat 10am-5pm Sun 1-5pm

up[route]d suggests upheaval, chaos, conflict, migration and sorrow. The daily news delivers stories saturated in all of these themes from our own southern border, to the war in Syria, to the ones who stayed behind. These artists explore what it means to be displaced, watched, misunderstood and persecuted, all while searching for a space, a country, a new home that is empathetic, welcoming, and safe from violence and conflict.

For more information, contact our Associate Curator, Ashleigh Shuler, by email at or call 864.582.7616 x 254.

This exhibition is generously sponsored by The Arkwright Foundation, Bagwell Fence, Santo Lubes,Susu + George Dean Johnson Jr, Margaret + George Nixon, and Bob's Car Wash.
