Join the Southern Studies Fellows, Desiree S. Evans and Sarah Nixon, for a showcase of their mixed media art project examining Black women’s stories of survival in the American South. The cumulative event of their fellowship in Spartanburg will feature an art exhibit, mini-documentary screening, live readings, and an artist talkback.

Inheritance is a collaborative art project that celebrates and honors the wisdom and creative genius of Southern Black women. Through painting, documentary film, and writing, Desiree and Sarah explore Black Southern women’s teachings, traditions, life lessons, and ways of being that have allowed them to survive under centuries of oppression.

First one hundred attendees will receive Desiree and Sarah’s brand-new illustrated book!
