SPARTANBURG, S.C. —Spartanburg Little Theatre enters the realm of virtual programming with a staged reading of John Lane’s “The Pheasant Cage: A Play in One Act”.  Streaming on-demand November 16-22 “The Pheasant Cage” is presented in partnership with Spartanburg’s Hub City Writers Project.
“We’re so excited to stick our toes back into creative waters,” says Jay Coffman, Spartanburg Little Theatre’s Executive Artistic Director. “Our stages have been dark since March, so we felt that now was the time to bring our stage to our viewers using a virtual platform.”
“The Pheasant Cage” is a one-act play written by Wofford College Professor Emeritus John Lane.  An award-winning author and environmentalist, John Lane is one of the founders of the Hub City Writers Project and lives in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  His most recent novel, Whose Woods These Are, was published by Mercer University Press earlier this year.
Presented and filmed in the style of a staged reading, the play takes place on the eve of an impending wedding, as two men stand in a suburban Southern back yard building a pheasant cage.  Richard, about to marry Jenny, and Carl, about to leave her mother, struggle to define their new relationship while wrestling with the shadowy secrets of the past.
“The Pheasant Cage” runs approximately 35 minutes and is rated PG-13 for some coarse language and themes.
