Staying Creative at Home

We know how important it is to stay healthy during a stressful time, both physically and mentally. That's why we want to help you and your loved ones stay creative and active while you're at home! Read our list of ideas for virtual arts and culture, and let us know if you have anything to add by emailing us at chapmanculturalcenter@spartanarts.org.

Music

Dance

Writing

  • Journal your daily thoughts
  • Write about your favorite memories

Drawing

  • Learn to draw using YouTube tutorials or other online courses
  • Play Pictionary, Cranium, or other board games that let you be creative and doodle
  • Make sure to check out Spartanburg Art Museum's daily Stay Home Stay Creative prompt inspired by their current gallery show and show off your best work

Painting

  • Chapman Cultural Center paint by numbers - download it here and show us how you got creative 
  • Let the kids paint on windows and glass doors with water-based paint for easy cleanup 
  • Recreate the Creative Crosswalks downtown with chalk on your own sidewalk or driveway, snap a photo, and tag us on social media

Sculpting

  • Have some fun with homemade play dough
  • Make a flower pot out of clay to get ready for spring

Reading

  • Read a book by a southern author from Hub City Writers Project - they have many inventive ways to get you new books during the virus closures
  • Check out online books from the Spartanburg Library
  • Finish reading one of your books that you’ve never gotten around to finishing

Science 

  • Watch nature documentaries and learn about the environment
  • Plant some seeds and watch them grow
  • Go for a walk in your neighborhood and bird watch
  • Visit local parks and nature preserves (while maintaining distance from others)
  • Watch daily videos from Spartanburg Science Center to learn more about the animals and other cool science facts

  • Cook your favorite comfort food recipe
  • Create a meal with all the random ingredients in your pantry 
  • Make a smoothie with fruits and veggies to boost your immune system
  • Create your own cookbook of your favorite recipes and dishes
