Guild Showcases Student Art
Artist’s Guild of Spartanburg will sponsor the Focus on Youth Juried Exhibition in the Guild Gallery at Chapman Cultural Center March 4-27. The show features artists in grades 9-12 who attend school in Spartanburg County. This year, the work will be judged by prominent watercolor artist and educator Dwight Rose. Rose has taught at Ringling College of Art and Design and VCU School of the Arts in Qatar. This will be the second stint for Rose, who was the juror in 2012 that saw more than 80 9th-12th grade artists participating from various schools in the Spartanburg area.
Awards will include a $100 prize for first place, $75 for second, $50 for third, and two $25 honorable mentions. In addition, there will be an Excellence in Design award of $50, and an Art Teacher Award of $50 given to the art educator who has the most entries selected into the show. Sponsors for this year’s show include Lyons Group LLC; Isabel Forbes: In Memory of Betty Bramlett; Haute Mama Boutique; Wilkinson Optometrist; Prices; and Imagination Station. A reception and awards ceremony will be held Thursday, March 12, 6-7:30 p.m. at Chapman Cultural Center.
