Many Spartanburg locals know of the Artists' Guild of Spartanburg, but how much do you really know about what the Guild does for the community? Did you know that the Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg was founded in 1957 by 16 local artists, who wanted to support one another in their artistic endeavors? Now, 61 years later, we're still going strong. Our members create everything from sculpture to murals, metalwork to hand-painted signs for local shops and everything in between. Every year the Guild provides gallery space for artists to display their work, plus an annual juried show.

However, competition is not the core of our mission. Our main focus is our town and its residents. In 2017 we hosted a photography exhibit featuring photos taken by the homeless in our area. All proceeds from the show, which came in at over $10,000, went back to homeless shelters and ministries in Spartanburg. In recent years, we have also collected supplies and art kits for families at The Haven and art supplies for local teachers. One of our favorite projects 2018 was the art show we hosted for residents of the Charles Lea Center. Not only was the art bright and cheery, but proceeds from the show went directly back to center.

Because we are intent on supporting our local talent now and want to ensure that future generations can find the support that they need, we are developing a Jr. Membership. Junior members will enjoy demonstrations put on by local artists, take photo walks with a professional photographer and have the opportunity to talk to artists one on one. Junior members who are graduating high school and plan to follow a career path in the arts will have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to be applied toward their future studies. We are looking forward to partnering with the younger generation so that we can help them prepare to take the lead in the coming decades.
