May 16, 2019 | Features

Chapman Cultural Center is proud to announce it has awarded the annual Mary Wheeler Davis Scholarship to Adriana Stamile. The scholarship fund is a component of an endowment fund through The Spartanburg County Foundation and is awarded to a Spartanburg County High School Senior who will be pursuing an undergraduate degree in the performing or visual arts.

Stamile, a home-schooled student from Roebuck, received a scholarship of $2,000 and plans to double major in violin and vocal performance at Converse College this Fall.

"Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to be a musician. As soon as I could talk, I was begging my mother to give me a violin. She made me wait until I was four, then she rented a 1/16 size violin and found my teacher, with whom I have been studying ever since. Because music has been such an important influence in my life, I want to share it with others. My interest was sparked by watching another young girl play the violin at church. Now, I would like to bring that joy and inspiration to people that was given to me. After college, I would like to have the credentials and professional polish to be able to perform in orchestras and as a soloist, to publish music, to teach, to direct, and to record."

Stamile's instructors rave not only about her gifts as an artist, but also her personal drive and character.

"In approximately 40 years of teaching violin, I would have to rate her as among my top five students in overall talent, motivation, and consistent effort. As a result, the musical literature she is currently playing is generally more difficult than usual for her age." - Charlene Boehm, M.A

"In addition to being heavily involved in the music ministry of our church through special music and choir participation, she is also a very active member of the youth group and serves in our nursery ministry. As the church secretary, I can attest to the fact that we always feel confident that Adriana will serve in whatever capacity requested with cheerfulness, dependability, and skill." - Lance Bastian

After obtaining her degree, Stamile plans to be heavily involved in the fine arts of her local community. Specifically, she will seek internship opportunities with regional orchestras and her local opera company.

Congratulations Adriana!
