The Art School at Spartanburg Art Museum Offers Summer Programs for Children and Teens
Spartanburg Art Museum’s Art School will soon be a busy place as children fill class rooms with the sounds of art making and happy voices. The Art School at Chapman Cultural Center is gearing up for its summer programming that includes weeklong half-day art camps for children from preschool through age 13, as well as classes for children and teens that meet once a week.
“Our art camps have been a huge hit in the past,” Art School Coordinator Kathleen Digney said. “We are looking forward to another great summer with an awesome line up of creative outlets for kids. In addition to our 12 camps, we have added some exciting weekly children’s classes and classes specifically designed for teens. It was important to us to give the community a variety of options from which to choose.”
The art camps will run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m. with each camp built around a theme. For instance, Frozen Fun is a camp designed for 5-8-year-olds comprised of crafty projects inspired by this favorite Disney movie or All The Galaxy for 4-6-year-olds, which explores space and planets through paint and mixed media. Young artists are sure to find a camp to match their interests, accommodate their availability and provide an awesome creative experience.
Teen classes include printmaking and drawing. Weekly classes for younger children include ceramics, watercolor and printmaking and certain classes take place during evening hours in order to more easily accommodate schedules of working parents.
SAM’s Art School programming is taught by either professional artists or art educators who teach studio techniques appropriate to the age and level of the student.
