The David W. Reid Award is Spartanburg’s most prestigious recognition for achievements in the arts. This award has been presented to a Spartanburg citizen since 1970, when it was first given by the Arts Council of Spartanburg County to its namesake for his contributions to stage performances. Since then, it has been awarded annually to someone who has significantly enhanced the arts through creative, volunteer, or financial contributions. In 1995, the award’s presenter became The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg. The most recent recipients in 2011 were Wendy and Bill Mayrose. By tradition, the recipient is in some creative fashion “surprised” when the award is made public.
